Lovely Harlequin Appaloosa Female!
AOA# 36221721  DOB: 11/5/2022  (3 yrs)
Huacaya | Cria Female | Unproven | White, Medium Fawn, Medium Rose Grey, True Black
Sire: FTAF's Privateer
Dam: ~Apache’s Polka-hontis (Harlequin Appaloosa)

Suki's dam, Rare Gem Apache's Polka-hontis, was the smallest cria ever born on farm. Three years ago, Polka-hontis was born a month premature... some time during the night and was found in the morning limp, life-less and just 8.5 lbs. She rallied back and became a healthy, precocious young female. By late 2021, Polka-hontis had grown to a solid breeding weight / size and was very receptive with the boys. Champion FTAF's Privateer was selected for her maiden breeding. Privateer is an elite-fleeced, handsome male known for stamping his beautiful head style and uniform, fine fleece on his offspring. He is also a producer of repeated champion offspring. So.... fast forward... 336 days. On 11/5/22, after a seemingly easy 30 minute labor, Polka-hontis, gave birth to our SECOND smallest ever cria-- Rare Gem Suki... just 9.5 lbs. Suki was fully baked, strong and healthy-- but tiny! She has confidence and personality galore! The other cria can't keep up with her. Dam, Polka-hontis', color genotype is ee a1a2 and sire, FTAF's Privateer, is color genotype ee a2a2. So this pairing was a natural for creating a beautifully expressed harlequin appaloosa. As offspring Suki carries two black alleles-- one from each parent... it is highly likely that she will darken over time as is typically of harlequin appaloosas. Polka-hontis, Suki's dam, is a great first time mom with ample milk and natural maternal instincts. Suki has gained ~ a half pound per day her first three weeks.

Appaloosa genetics!
AOA# 36318681  DOB: 5/1/2025  (1 yr)
Huacaya | Cria Female | Unproven | Light Fawn, True Black
Sire: Rare Gem X Man (Appaloosa)
Dam: ~Stone Pine Olivia (Harlequin)

Introducing Rare Gem X-Spotsss XOXO, a bright and beautiful female cria born May Day 2025 out of our proven Harlequin dam Stone Pine Olivia and sired by the wildly popular Appaloosa male, Rare Gem X-Man. This sweet girl may have skipped the visible spots that her lineage is so well known for—but she brings every bit of the charm, fleece quality, and personality that we could have hoped for. Her name—XOXO—was affectionately inspired by her parents, combining the "X" from sire X-Man and the "O" from dam Olivia. It suits her perfectly. From Day 1, XOXO has impressed us with her straight, well-balanced proportions, dense bundles of bright curls, and an outgoing, confident personality that captures hearts quickly. Her dam, Olivia, has been a consistent Appaloosa and Harlequin producer for us, delivering excellence in both conformation and maternal instincts. Olivia’s first cria, Be Brave, is a striking Harlequin male now standing in our stud row. Her second, Sizlin’s On Fya, is a bright Appaloosa female with elite fleece, currently out for a special breeding with her first offspring anticipated in 2026. XOXO completes this trio with her own unique promise. We recently made the decision to offer Olivia and XOXO as a 3-in-1 package—a difficult choice made to maintain proper genetic diversity within our herd. We are delighted that they’ve found their forever home with Blackberry Fields Alpaca Farm on the stunning Northern California coast, where we’re confident they’ll continue to shine. XOXO is not available for sale. This page is maintained as a record of her pedigree and story.

Sweetly Spotted by Design! (Appaloosa)
AOA# 36398812  DOB: 11/8/2025  (Under 1 yr)
Huacaya | Cria Female | Unproven | White, Medium Brown
Sire: Willowwind’ Pied Marquis
Dam: Snowmass Divine Eclipse

Meet Rare Gem Painted Divinity, affectionately called Candy — and oh, is she ever sweet! This big-boned, classic Appaloosa female is everything we had hoped for and more. Her sire, WillowWind' Pied Marquis AKA Mr, SPOTalicious, brings in fresh, diverse genetics to the Rare Gem herd — strength, substance, and that unmistakable Appaloosa charm. Her dam, Snowmass Divine Eclipse, carries the elite fleece genetics of Snowmass Divine Love, known for brightness, fineness, and consistency. Candy is the perfect blend of both worlds — the divine and the daring. From her sturdy frame to her beautifully painted fleece, she embodies the heart of the Rare Gem program: unique, artistic, and unforgettable. Heritage & Strengths Dam Line — “The Divine” From Snowmass Divine Eclipse, Candy inherits an elegant foundation of fineness, uniformity, and a bright white fleece that serves as the perfect canvas for her Appaloosa pattern. The Divine Love line has long been celebrated for its soft handle, elite uniformity, and heavenly brightness — traits we value deeply in our breeding goals. Sire Line — “The Marquis” Her sire, WillowWind Pied Marquis, contributes depth of frame, coverage, and that bold Appaloosa expression we love. His strength and balance complement Eclipse’s refinement beautifully, producing a female that’s both robust and graceful. Pattern & Fleece Notes Candy wears her heritage like art. Her fleece is decorated with large, bold spots showing the rich depth of color we love to see. The contrast of her markings against her light base makes her a true pasture standout. Her fleece is bright, crimpy, and soft — a promising indicator of what’s to come as she matures. What She Brings to the Rare Gem Lineup Every member of the Rare Gem herd holds a special place, and Candy is no exception. She brings with her a powerful blend of genetics, balance, and color expression that enriches our ongoing program evolution. Her strong frame, elite fleece lineage, and beautifully painted pattern represent the harmony we seek in every generation — a fusion of strength, fineness, and artistry. Candy’s presence in the lineup continues the Rare Gem tradition of celebrating the extraordinary beauty found in alpacas that stand out for both their quality and individuality. With Gratitude A heartfelt thank-you to Angi and Ludo of Mule Train Alpacas for the opportunity to use their exceptional herdsire, Marquis. Their collaboration made this special pairing possible. What's in a Name? Her registered name, Painted Divinity, tells her story perfectly — Painted for her expressive Appaloosa pattern, as if brushed onto a living canvas, and Divinity as a nod to her dam’s Snowmass Divine Love heritage. The name also carries a wink to the old-fashioned candy — light, airy, and delightful — which inspired her barn name, Candy. Just like her namesake treat, this (not so little) girl is irresistible!

Huacaya | Yearling Female | Unproven | Dark Fawn, Medium Rose Grey
Sire: ~Rare Gem Camouflage (Harlequin)
Dam: H2R Myrtle

We are delighted to welcome Rare Gem Hazel Nut, a standout addition to our herd and the very first offspring of our Harlequin Appaloosa herdsire, Rare Gem Camouflage, and our exceptional female, H2R Myrtle. Hazel Nut wasted no time making an impression—she was up and nursing within 10 minutes, a testament to her strength and vigor. Hazel Nut is the result of a carefully planned pairing, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the outcome. Myrtle, bred by Happy Hounds Ranch—renowned for producing elite alpacas—has proven to be an outstanding addition to our program. This being Myrtle’s first cria, we are overjoyed with the results and grateful to Happy Hounds Ranch for the opportunity to bring Myrtle into our herd. At first glance, Hazel Nut appeared to be a dark fawn or light brown, but as the days have passed, her coloring has begun to reveal its true complexity. Grey is emerging on her topknot and down the back of her neck, with distinct roaning on all four legs. Her unique coloration, combined with her pedigree, strongly suggests grey or roan genotype—a feature we look forward to confirming through testing. Hazel Nut is a lovely, strong cria with a striking presence. Her lineage is a blend of excellence, and we are excited to see how she develops. With her unique coloring and promising genetics, Hazel Nut is one to watch as she grows into her potential. Stay tuned for updates on Hazel Nut’s progress and genotype results—we are confident she will be a shining star in our breeding program!

Looking for stellar appaloosa / harlequin genetic at a great price? DarkStar might just be your guy. DarkStar's sire is the highly expressive and wildly spotted harlequin appaloosa herdsire Apache Gentleman. This line carries legendary appaloosa / harlequin genetics on both sides of the pedigree. These exciting genetics are in high demand and several of DarkStar's siblings have been exported to Europe. DarkStar's dam is true black, Delphi's Bodacia "Bodie". Bodie is the daughter of Judges Choice and 9X grey color champion-- KVRs Peruvian True Eye Candy. From GSire, IKE's page... JUDGE'S CHOICE WINNER FOR FLEECE!! Ike's advanced Judge's Choice fleece, which scored 87 points - puts him in a very very small class of elite classic gray herd sires. In halter, he was awarded Color Champion at arguably the toughest halter show in the country, the Futurity. is a US Steel daughter so this boy's pedigree is packed with grey genetics. DarkStar's maternal brother 2X champion, Rare Gem Bada Bing! Now standing stud in Central California. DarkStar is a solid youngster-- straight legs, a bright, dense, curly true black fleece. DarkStar's harlequin appaloosa sire throws appaloosas and harlequins >80 percent of the time. Unfortunately, DarkStar missed the memo on the spots. DarkStar has a 50 percent chance of carrying the appaloosa gene and being able to produce it. We believe that the chance is much better than 50 percent as he is expressing some spotting on her rear left left where you can see white and brown spots. DarkStar's color genotype is Ee a2a2 which is very desirable for an appaloosa / harlequin breeding program. If that is not your thing... DarkStar is also a nice choice for black and grey breeders given his stellar grey and black pedigree. If you are interested in breeding for rare fleece colors, you can also read our recent article in The American Alpaca Journal: Breeding for Rare Fleece Colors by Clicking Here DarkStar is an easy to handle, sweet boy. We have a video of his first time on a halter and lead. We would be happy to send to you so you can see how great he did. No drama... just off and walking.

10/17/18 - Faith throws a handsome appaloosa cria. Faith likes to throw fully baked cria in record time. This little guy was born 15 lbs. at 323 days gestation. This makes 3 cria for Faith in 2 years!! And all three are harlequin / appaloosas. Faith has now proven that even though she has no appaloosa-harlequin gene carriers in her pedigree, when bred to the right boy... she can reliably produce exactly what is hoped for! As tempting as it was to breed Faith to Taupie again (the sire of the first two cria), new to the team XXXtreme Spots was selected for Faith's third pairing. Spots' appy gene comes from NGG Lional-- a known appy carrier that has been well-proven in Canada but is rather rare in the United States. What is so special about Spots from an appy breeder perspective is that he carries elite-fleeced heavy hitter lines in his pedigree such as Legacy, El Nino, and XXXtreme (out of Hemingway) ALONG WITH the expressed appy gene! These elite-fleeced alpacas are known for their lasting-fineness and density. Norm Evan's skin biopsy stats are available on Spots' page. Not only does Spots sport a sweet, easy-to-handle disposition... his fleece is exactly what you would expect from such a stellar pedigree. He is super-dense and fine and FULL of crimp! Expect lasting fineness from this guy-- his sire, Sai-Hoji, was 21 micron at 11 years old! 9/22/17 - Faith throws a beautiful little harlequin female. Born at just 311 days gestation, she weighed in at 13 lbs. Faith's maternal instinct is strong and milk production is robust. At just 7 weeks of age, this 13 pound girl weighed in at 38 pounds AND it was already apparent that her fleece was characteristic of traits we hope for. This young girl's first fleece was entered in 3 shows in 2018 (where she showed as rose grey) and she held her own in competitive classes including the AOA National Fleece Show. 9/25/16 - Faith delivered her first cria (at just 310 days gestation!)-- a beautiful uniquely colored harlequin - appaloosa girl sired by Vintage Cashmere U-Taupe-ia. The result of this pairing is a true Rare Gem named Appletini! I loved the result of this pairing so much, that on 10/31/16, I repeated the breeding. Faith "took" on that first breeding and just 10.5 months later, delivered another girl! ... a beautiful "classic" appaloosa named "SPOTlight". So talk about productive... two beautiful harlequin girls and one handsome appaloosa boy... in less than two years-- and only bred one time each pregnancy! Faith has earned herself the title of the highest performing production dam on the ranch. :-) Faith is a super sweet girl. She has nice genetics in her lineage—Quijote, Danko and Lanark’s Silver Charm. Faith was shown three times 2014 / 2015 before starting her breeding career. She placed 2nd each time in competitive classes. Her 5th year (2018) histogram... Faith is still sporting a low 20's AFD, 4.2 SD and a CV of 18.4%. Gotta love this girl!!

Sire: BISTURI
Dam: HVLA POPPY - SOLD
Service Sire: Vintage Cashmere U-Taupe-ia

Periwinkle is a great foundation dam. Before joining the Rare Gem line up, Periwinkle was a grey program foundation dam. She threw 3 out of 3 grey offspring when bred to grey. Suspecting that she may be a "blank", she was added to the Rare Gem harlequin / appaloosa team. Sure enough, she has thrown 2 out of 2 harlequin / appaloosas for us when bred to harlequin appaloosa herdsire, Cashmere's U-Taupe-ia. The first boy was a handsome beige with spots on his belly and legs that greyed out down his neck and topline. He has joined Sleepy Acre Farms stud row as a future stud for their harlequin / appaloosa program. Periwinkle's second Rare Gem offspring is the stunning Heart Kandi. She is the most uniquely color / patterned appaloosa to date. Her blanket is a solid dark fawn and she has black spots on her legs, belly and chin. She is a big strong cria and very loveable. Periwinkle is a stellar breeding dam... never a problem getting pregnant, holds her pregnancies, delivers large 20lb plus babies, has tons of milk and is the most attentive of moms. Periwinkle’s sire is none other than Bisturi, the legendary grey herdsire. Bisturi is a stunning grey male with a gorgeous evenly colored fleece. He has a fabulous pedigree that yields itself to producing not only grey, but quality fleece in general. Offspring: - 2012 Periwinkle had a handsome grey male from Silverado’s Peruvian Silver Fox. - 2013 Periwinkle had a gorgeous light silver grey girl, Epic Alpacas Athena, from multiple award winner Chief Grey Feather (#31825610). - 2014 Periwinkle did it again! This time, a beautiful dark silver grey girl out of Avatar’s Avalance, Persephone! - 2016 Periwinkle continues to throw exactly was asked for. This year is a beautiful big-boned, densely- fleeced boy with gorgeous crimp harlequin appaloosa. He took two Blue Ribbons in his first show. Sold! This pairing will be repeated for a 2018 offspring! -2018 And AGAIN! Periwinkle produced a very unique, appaloosa girl. We have named her Heart Kandi as she is the sweetest cria ever. :-) Congratulations to Plateau Breeze on the purchase of Periwinkle and her 2018 cria, Heart Kandi for their appaloosa foundation!

UPDATE: 6/8/21 - Roxy has blessed us with another beautiful harlequin appaloosa. This boy looks just like his full sister-- Stella born in 2017. He was born 19 lbs., unassisted. Roxy is a fabulous foundation female-- tons of milk and very maternal. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * 2017 - Oh, my, oh, my!!! Did Roxie ever deliver?! 316 day gestation--16 pound female! This cria is everything Rare Gem Alpacas breeding program aspires to. Unique? Well, not only is the coloration stunning, her fleece as a newborn at only 316 days gestation is at least 2 inches long and already full of crimp and character! As I watch her fleece develop, the color has evened out and is a brilliant platinum grey with a lavender tint. This girl has one spunky personality and thinks she is a mini Roxie already! She has taken on the youngest cria of the group, Silky Sam, I Am and watches over him and bosses him around like he is her own!! Yep, she is going to be one great mom! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Roxie is a full Peruvian 3/8 Accoyo gal sired by Legacy son PHA Peruvian Taos. Roxie is the first female produced by the pairing of Taos and Isabella. She is also the full sister to multi color champion BMF Tao's Zeppelin and the multi blue ribbon winner BMF Tao's Pearl Jam! Just like her champion brothers, Roxie brings a well balanced frame and clean top line. She is true to type with strong substance of bone. Her fleece is fine and silky smooth just like her brothers! Her current photos show the volumes of fleece she will produce as well as excellent staple length. Roxie's EPDs are within the top 5% in four (4) categories!! She is a high quality foundation producer and has what it takes to throw amazing fiber and color across all phases! Roxie's dad, Taos, a stunning Legacy son, had a 22.9 AFD at 7 yrs. Her mom tested at 21.3 AFD at 7 years as well.

Epic Alpacas Guinevere is not only a beauty to add to a grey or appy program, she is very affectionate! You always want one you can wrap your arms around each day and nestle her gorgeous fiber. Both of Guinevere's parents are outstanding in their own right. Alpha Omega's Prometheus is a multi ribbon show winner. Judges have had no trouble handing him a top ribbon and have noted his fiber is as nice as a nice white alpaca. Guinevere's mother, Callista has had all quality offspring of various colors. This is the first time she was bred to grey, and she had grey! Callista is dark brown with a purple cast. Very interesting! Guinevere has exceptional genetics: MFI SCIMITAR, DOM TIMBO, SILVERSMITH, Peruvian Accoyo Felix on her father's side and 7 time Color Champion BLACK EPIC and the granddaughter of ACCOYO THE LAST DON on her mother's side! In addition to these great genetics, Guinie carries the appy gene and with a selective breeding... is sure to produce something truly special!

Krispy carries the impressive quality bloodlines of her grandsires SA Peruvian Black Epic and PPPeruvian Grand Master. This quality breeding shows through in her proud carriage, beautiful conformation, super straight topline, upright elegant neck carriage and perfectly straight legs with good strong bone. She also has amazing coverage. On June 6, 2011 Krispy had a beautiful female cria, "Dottie Biscotti" a loud colored Appaloosa with gorgeous conformation, pretty head and lovely fleece! She's sired by the spectacular Charles P Atlas, winner of six blue ribbons for Get-Of-Sire and sire of six color champions so far! In 2017, Dottie carried the appaloosa gene forward throwing a spectacularly spotted female cria with popcorn fleece. In 2014, Krispy had another beautiful female cria, "Sweet Eclaire". In 2015, both Krispy and Eclaire left their farm in Ohio to live in California and become part of the Rare Gem foundation herd. I just can't say enough about this strong line of girls. I love their personalities, fleece and the ability to pass along the desired traits to their offspring. June 7, 2019... National Doughnut Day... go figure... Krispy Kream threw a beautiful silky appaloosa. Please check out "Dunkin'"... his fleece will be a hand spinner's dream! (Sold). UPDATE: Thanksgiving 2020... Sire: 6PERUVIAN ACCOYO THE LAST DONIMPR98
Dam: 5PERUVIAN INDIGO INK 8615

Corky is only one of two true black females ever produced from 6 Peruvian The Last Don! Corky is a full Peruvian, half Accoyo true black with impressive genetics. She was sired by the one and only 6Peruvian Accoyo The Last Don and her dam was 5Peruvian Indigo Ink. These two alpacas were Peruvian imports and quickly made their mark in the industry. Corky is exceptional for a true black just like her mom. She is well-proportioned, true to type with a proper head and broad muzzle. Corky has excellent substance of bone with good body capacity through her chest. Even though Corky is one of Rare Gem's mature foundation girls, her fleece and topknot are still thick and dense at almost 12 years of age. Her fleece is still crimpy and bright. We really appreciate Corky’s classic Accoyo look as evidenced by her compact broad muzzle. Corky was bred to Taos' Peruvian Pearl Jam and produced a beautiful 2014 cria BMF Pearl Jam's Indigo Ink Spot! "Wow" is the result of this breeding. Pearl Jam is a 9x Blue Ribbon winner and full brother to BMF Taos' Zeppelin! His Pearl Jam fineness and crimp genetics with this Last Don gal shows again just what she can produce. 2016 Update: Corky produced another silky-fleeced cria, Rare Gem Grace O'Malley. She has proven herself to deliver quality. Her genetics are great match for any color phased herdsire of quality. 2017 Updates: - Corky's 2016 progeny, Rare Gem Grace O'Malley, entered the show world this year and took Black Reserve Color Champion in the Cottage Fleece Competition at the 2017 AOA National Fleece Show. - 11/21/17 Corky throws a gorgeous modern grey female cria!! 2019 Update: - June 2019... meet the arrival of Corky's handsome jet black young man, RG Cuppa Joe!

Sire: MFI Peruvian Allblack
Dam: Krispy Kream (3X Proven Appaloosa Producer)

In 2017, Eclaire was bred to FTAF's Privateer, a Buccaneer son and FTAF Blackbeard sibling. Both Eclaire and Privateer brought superior fleece characteristics, fiber stats and phenotype and produced a lovely white female cria, Rare Gem Coconut Kream. Her fiber is super fine and has lovely crimp. Eclaire's sire is MFI Peruvian Allblack, the 2011 AOBA National Fleece Show Reserve Champion, chosen out of 27 brown fleeces. His fleece is fine with carpet density and loads of character with high frequency crimp. It is so bright, it's brilliant. Allblack consistently passes on his dark colored genetics. The majority of his crias are black or dark brown girls. Look closely at his pedigree, there is not a weak spot in it. His dam is as accomplished and well-bred as his sire. This male is quality head to toe. Flawless conformation, gorgeous head, and a super nice calm disposition. He has it all. Eclaire's dam, Krispy Kream, was a stand-out in the Rare Gem foundation herd for years. She is in the top 5% in three EPD categories and top 1% fibers >30 (22 micron fleece at age 11! ). Krispy graced the herd with her amazing carriage. Always standing tall... with an eye for everything going on. Just love this line of girls! Congratulations to Clear Mountains Alpacas of Connecticut. Krispy Kream, and her BFF Marshmallow Moon, moved to their new farm in 2021-- both with Apache babies in the oven! UPDATE: A few years back, Eclaire had a bout with mites leaving her nose bare as well as a couple of places on her legs. She has long since been mite-free, but the fiber has been slow to regrow. It can be a problem during the summer as her nose can get sunburnt on this delicate skin area. I keep a large mask on her during the summer that covers most of her nose to protect her from the sun. I have her on Mazuri Fiber Enhancer containing biotin and other fiber supplements. We recently started Eclaire on a new topical skin treatment Ozone Ointment with Propolis for Alpacas. Hopefully this will help with Eclaire's lil bald nose. If you think Eclaire might be a fit for your farm, please feel free to contact me so that we may discuss a breeding of your choice for Eclaire. She is being sold at a discounted price due to her skin condition.

Sire: Vintage Cashmere U-Taupe-ia
Dam: AAV Flash's Faith (4 for 4 Appy-Harley Producer!)

Appletini is exactly what we have been breeding for here at Rare Gem Alpacas. Not only is she stunning to look at with her calico looking face, but pull apart her fleece and you find oodles of bundles of crimpy, shiny, bright-fine fleece. This little girl has expressed every color on the chart, not one pattern-- just speckles and spots from nose to toes! The unique coloring of this cria looks as though the color from her sire's Grand Dam, Chiquita Import, is coming through and producing the rarest of rare gems-- her beautiful colors seems to morph before your eyes! Appletini is sired by Vintage Cashmere U-Taupe-ia. Taupie's heritage boasts appaloosa genetics on both sides of his lineage with Aussie Rockford out of Hannahruh on his sire's side and Chiquita Import on his dam's side. Appletini's dam is "Faith", a non-appy lineage vicuna pattern girl known for her dense, but fine fleece with substantial character and nice handle. This pairing has been repeated for a Fall 2017 cria! 2017 Show Update: We just returned from California Classic and are very proud of the Rare Gem herd results. Appletini was part of the show crew along with her brother, Johnny Appy-Seed. This was Appletini's first show and she was just 6 months (minimum age) to the day at check in. Appletini was entered in two classes and received two ribbons-- a 1st and a 6th. The first place was in Bred and Owned (Dark) in which the rules are pretty straight forward and can include all colors dark including appaloosa. The class was judged 60% fleece and 40% confirmation. Appletini's second class-- Walking Fleece was not as straight forward. This class is judged 100% on fleece. Appletini was originally registered in the class as "Appaloosa", but by AOA rules, she must have 6 distinct spots in her blanket. By color-check day, her blanket was such that distinct spots where only obvious on her face, legs and belly and the color of her blanket was off-the-chart... literally. The decision was made to move her to the "grey" class as there was no obvious alignment for her on the color chart. Upon entering the ring the next day, the judge said... "this alpaca isn't grey"... which resulted in the color chart being retrieved and comparisons again being made. Again, without a match, but with a new determination. Move her to the "Fawn" class. Now, that is all fine and dandy... but that means that now Appletini is competing and being judged for "Uniformity of Color" as well as all the other categories. "Uniformity of Color" in an appaloosa? Well, the end result of all this was that Appletini placed 6 out of 11 fawns with high scores in all categories except... I bet you guessed it, "Uniformity of Color". :-)

Solid Platinum LSG Harlequin (Uber Rare)
AOA# 31165532  DOB: 8/29/2008  (18 yrs)
Huacaya | Female | Proven | Light Silver Grey
Sire: Aussie Rockford
Dam: BF Bella Mia

Bella is something incredible exquisite! You will hear terms like modern silver grey, harlequin, platinum grey-- well roll them all into one and that is Bella. This coloration in incredibly rare, one of the absolute rarest alpacas colors out there. Bella is a solid platinum silver harlequin and her name, Bella Gris, meaning "beautiful grey" could not be more appropriate. Bella began life as a light fawn cria and by two years of age, she was completely grey-- except for her top-knot and leg fringe. She is completely spotless and the most beautiful light silver grey. While harlequins are not too common-- the solid, platinum variety such as this-- well, there may be a handful, at most, in the United States. So sometimes we find these special colored alpacas and then some other aspect falls short for a breeding program. Well, not with Bella. She has a very desirable build and beautiful fleece with nice crimp and lock structure. Before starting her production career, Bella had a nice run in the show ring-- 2X banner winner and 6 blue and red ribbons in just 7 shows. And for those of you wondering, she was shown in the grey class :-) Before joining the Rare Gem herd, Bella produced 3 lovely cria. Two females and one male-- all grey-- one harlequin grey!

This beautiful young girl is sired by FTAF's Privateer-- the son of true black SHVN The Buccaneer who took his 13th banner at 7 years old! Privateer is a stunning champion that possesses awesome structure and the brightness to his fleece is blinding. He has a gorgeous head and coverage everywhere. Privateer's fleece is that "elite" fleece with bundles everywhere and secondary bundles coming out of each bundle, even down to his knee and under his belly and on his chest. Like daddy, Rum Runner has beautiful fleece character and you can feel the density. At 10 days old, she was shorn and the fleece came off in a "blanket". No fly-away tips! Runner's dad's skin biopsy results from 2017 (at 5yrs old by Dr. Norm Evans) showed a density of 71 follicles/sqmm. SP ratio is 12.1 to 1 with level 4 of 4 gland presence which correlates with what senior judges are referring to as “well-nourished fleeces”. Secondary fibers average 21.9 microns and primary fibers averaging 30.1 giving him a variation of only 8.2 microns. UPDATE On Rum Runner's Sire: Privateer is aging gracefully. Bloodlines from Accoyo Yupanqui, Accoyo Pluro , Peruvian Black Magic, Black Epic, NGG Lional and much much more. Visiting stud, Springtoo Skyfall, has been breed to Snowflake for a Fall 2019 cria. Skyfall is proven to stamp his offspring with his superior fleece characteristics and when bred to color, he has thrown color. This pairing is guaranteed to throw something exciting. A bit of background on Skyfall... To date, Skyfall has been awarded three Color Championships, a RCC, two Spirit of the Industry awards, Best Hand, two Judges Choice awards, Best Crimp, Best Brightness and a handful of blues. The Judge's comments on his fleece were " Excellent fleece in all qualities. Healthy and well organized. Dense and Fine. WOW!". He scored a very impressive 88.5 out of 100 in the 2016 Fall Festival Alpaca Show. Judge, Sharon Loner, stated she used his fleece as the benchmark for brightness for all other fleeces. His offspring are just arriving on the show scene. One Skyfall offspring just took white color champion and Judges Choice at 2018 Fall Festival / Colorado. Harlequin Appaloosa Female!
AOA# 36221684  DOB: 11/19/2022  (3 yrs)
Huacaya | Female | Unproven | White, Light Fawn, Medium Brown
Sire: FTAF's Privateer
Dam: Kuska Haya's Tic Tac (Harlequin Appaloosa)

Congratulations to Angi Lyngby-Cox of Mule Train Alpacas on the purchase of Hat Trick! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Tic Tac and Privateer do it again! They have now produced two beautiful harlequins two years in a row. And this is the third appaloosa in row for Tic Tac. All three were out of non-appaloosa gene carrier, solid colored males. It is highly likely with this pedigree and production that dam, Tic Tac, is homozygous for the appaloosa allele(s). Tic Tac's color genotype is Ee a2a3 and sire, FTAF's Privateer, is color genotype ee a2a2. So this pairing was a natural for creating a beautifully expressed appaloosa. As this offspring carries two black alleles-- one from each parent... it is highly likely that she will darken over time as is typically of harlequin appaloosas. This young girl is big-boned, solid and straight... right from the get-go. Her champion sire, FTAF Privateer, is an elite-fleeced, handsome male known for stamping his beautiful head style and uniform, fine fleece on his offspring. He is also the producer of multiple champion offspring.

Subtle Pattern, Powerful Appy Genetics!
AOA#   DOB: 12/11/2025  (Under 1 yr)
Huacaya | Female | Unproven | White, Light Fawn
Sire: Mirakel (Appaloosa)
Dam: Stone Pine Iris (SOLD)

Meet Rare Gem Morning Bloom, a beautiful female cria whose arrival was as quiet as it was meaningful. Born early one morning after an extraordinary 377-day gestation, Morning Bloom arrived healthy and strong — a result that would later prove to be anything but ordinary. While not as boldly expressed as some of her paternal siblings, Morning Bloom carries soft, nearly pink spotting throughout her blanket, so subtle it can be difficult to see at first glance. These whisper-light markings give her an ethereal, blushed appearance — a gentle expression of her Appaloosa heritage rather than a loud one. What she does share unmistakably with her sire’s offspring is an exceptionally bright fleece, already eye-catching at this young age. Her fiber shows emerging, well-defined crimp bundles, paired with straight legs, a balanced frame, and a pleasing head style — hallmarks of the consistency Mirakel is stamping across his progeny. Importantly, lack of loud pattern expression should not cause this female to be overlooked. Morning Bloom’s pedigree is packed with Appaloosa genetics on both the top and bottom, making her a valuable foundation female for a pattern-focused breeding program. Her genetic depth offers significant opportunity for future expression when paired thoughtfully. Heritage & Strengths Dam Line — Stone Pine Iris Morning Bloom is out of the devoted and resilient Stone Pine Iris, a dam known for exceptional maternal instincts. During this pregnancy, Iris experienced an illness mid-gestation and was treated proactively under veterinary guidance. She responded well, made a full recovery, and went on to carry this pregnancy far beyond the typical gestation window, ultimately delivering a strong and 17.6-lb cria. Her ability to recover, maintain the pregnancy, and deliver a healthy, well-developed offspring speaks to her metabolic strength and maternal capacity. Iris is currently healthy, thriving, and sound. Sire Line — Mirakel (Appaloosa) Sired by Mirakel, a proven Appaloosa herdsire, Morning Bloom reflects his consistency for exceptional fleece brightness, correct structure, and balance — even when pattern expression is subtle. Offering This season has blessed us with an exceptional group of females, allowing the rare opportunity to offer Morning Bloom as part of a three-in-one package with her outstanding dam, Stone Pine Iris. This offering includes a breeding for Iris to buyer’s choice to any Rare Gem Alpacas herdsire. What’s in a Name Her name, Morning Bloom, reflects both her gentle arrival and her dam’s floral namesake, Iris. Checked late at night with no signs of labor, Morning Bloom was discovered quietly the next morning — freshly born and ready to greet the day. Morning Bloom is co-owned with Stone Pine Farm Alpacas.

Silky Sam I Am is a super friendly boy. He is a favorite of every ranch visitor. He eats pellets from your hand and loves a scratch behind the ear. His fleece was entered in two shows this year and he took a 1st and 2nd place. His fleece is super soft, bright, and full of crimp. This fine fleece will make wonderful yarn for the fiber enthusiast! Sam is in perfect health and as cute as can be... but he is small for his age. Due to his size, he is not making the cut for the Rare Gem Herdsire row and is offered for sale with his best friend, Snickerdoodle. These two are great friends and should go to a loving home together. Both boys are current on shots, vaccines and recently shorn.

Roan Pinto w/ Harlequin Genetics!
AOA# 35589112  DOB: 11/24/2018  (7 yrs)
Huacaya | Male | Unproven | White, Dark Silver Grey, True Black
Sire: Vintage Cashmere U-Taupe-ia
Dam: ~Rare Gem Grace O'Malley

This handsome black pinto male is roaning out... most likely an indicator of his harlequin genetics. His sire is none other than harlequin herdsire, Vintage Cashmere's U-Taupe-ia "Taupie". Taupie is a striking appaloosa harlequin male that is on a roll for throwing spotted and harlequin offspring. He has sired 53 offspring and 74 percent are either appaloosa or harlequin! While dam selection has a significant influence on such outcomes, it should be noted that the majority of the dams Taupie has been bred to have no genetic influence on this outcome. So for those that don't have existing foundation girls with appy / harlequin lineage-- Taupie has proven to be capable of passing along his appy genetics and produce desired results. Medicine Man's dam is 3X true black champion-- Rare Gem Grace O'Malley. Grace is the daughter of Mr. Big, our resident pinto here at Rare Gem Alpacas. Although Grace is solid black, she carries the pinto gene from dad and has thrown it several times-- including producing this handsome young male, Medicine Man. Grace O'Malley tied for highest bid at the 2023 Parade of Champions auction in New York and sold for $23,500 with her harlequin appaloosa cria at side. We think Medicine Man is very special. He is a pinto pattern that was born black and has roaned into a beautiful dark silver grey. We believe the roaning out is a good indication that he carries the harlequin / appaloosa gene from dad making him capable of a huge variety of offspring-- appaloosa, harlequin, pinto and even pintaloosa!

True Black with Harlequin Appy Genetics!
AOA# 36181377  DOB: 3/3/2022  (4 yrs)
Huacaya | Male | Unproven | True Black
Sire: Apache Gentlemen (Harlequin Appaloosa)
Dam: Granite Bay National Velvet (US Steel daughter)

This handsome young male is out of Granite Bay National Velvet (Lizzy). Lizzy is a stunning true black female with solid fiber stats and lovely curb appeal. For over six years, since her 2015 yearling histogram, Lizzy's fiber stats are relatively unchanged., Her most recent histogram (2021) is as follows: AFD 22.1, SD 4.8, %>30 5.2 (Age 7 yrs). Her sire is none other than Neversummer's US Steel 3 time Futurity Herdsire of the Year for the Small Breeder Division and proven producer of beautiful grey color champions. Midnight Desire's sire is the highly expressive and wildly spotted harlequin appaloosa herdsire Apache Gentleman. This line carries legendary appaloosa / harlequin genetics on both sides of the pedigree. These exciting genetics are in high demand and several of Midnight Desire's siblings have been exported to Europe. Midnight Desire is a solid youngster-- straight legs, lovely head style and a bright, fine true black fleece. For those looking to breed for black, grey and even harlequin appaloosa-- this boy could do any or all three. Midnight Desire's harlequin appaloosa sire throws appaloosas and harlequins >80 percent of the time. Because Midnight Desire falls into that 20 percent... no visible spotted category, he is being offered at a greatly reduced price for these genetics. Midnight Desire is currently in Colorado with his dam, Lizzy. She has been breed to 3X Champion, appaloosa herdsire-- Alchesay-- an Apache son ;-) ! Midnight Desire is available with his bred dam as a 3-in1 package. For potential mid-west and east coast buyers, plan now to save on transport before Midnight Desire returns to California in the Fall.

Harlequin appaloosa genetics!
AOA# 36181308  DOB: 3/28/2022  (4 yrs)
Huacaya | Male | Unproven | Medium Fawn
Sire: Apache Gentlemen (Harlequin Appaloosa)
Dam: Accoyo America Shasta Daisy

Congratulations to Rhonda and Bart Leinberger of Indian Point Hills Alpacas. Rhonda and Bart purchased Huckleberry as a weanling with his buddy Midnight. The Leinberger's have gone on to show Huckleberry in a variety of shows and report they are very happy with him and his results under "tough competition". Huckleberry has always placed 3rd or better at these highly competitive shows. Go Huckleberry! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * This handsome young male is out of Accoyo America Shasta Daisy. Daisy is the daughter of 6X color champion, Accoyo America Jason. Jason is co-owned by Amber Autumn Alpacas and Little Creek Farm, LLC. Owner, Lynn Edens, comments on Jason... The offspring of a very successful pairing of Camilio siblings, Jason won the AOBA Nationals championship in brown three years running. It is rare to find such exquisite crimp, character and density in a deep red brown fleece. Even better, Jason has consistently reproduced those characteristics in his crias, and at such a high level that even his white offspring are consistently ribboning in the competitive white classes. He has produced champions in fawn and brown. Huckleberry's sire is the highly expressive and wildly spotted harlequin appaloosa herdsire Apache Gentleman. This line carries legendary appaloosa / harlequin genetics on both sides of the pedigree. These exciting genetics are in high demand and several of Huckleberry's siblings have been exported to Europe. Huckberry is a solid youngster-- straight legs, lovely head style and a bright, dense, fine medium fawn fleece. Huckberry's harlequin appaloosa sire throws appaloosas and harlequins >80 percent of the time. Unfortunately, Huckleberry only has two visible spots-- both black. One spot is on his ear and the other on his front leg. Due to Huckleberry's minimal spotting, he is being offered at a greatly reduced price for these genetics. Huckleberry is currently in Colorado with his dam, Daisy. She is being breed to 3X Champion, appaloosa herdsire-- Alchesay-- an Apache son ;-) ! Huckleberry is available to purchased now, but cannot depart to a new home until he is completely weaned ~ September 2022. For potential mid-west and east coast buyers, plan now to save on transport before Huckleberry returns to California in the Fall.

AOA# 36181285  DOB: 6/12/2022  (4 yrs)
Huacaya | Male | Unproven | True Black
Sire: Snowmass Divine Kingship
Dam: Snowmass Andean Diamond

This young male has a BRIGHT future here at Rare Gem Alpacas. He was purchased in utero with his dam, Snowmass Andean Diamond, through the 2021 Snowmass Bred Maiden Sale. Not only did we love his dam's phenotype and genotype, she has a pedigree that we had been wanting to incorporate into our appaloosa and harlequin breeding program. We hoped that our in utero baby would be a black male, but knew we had less than a 25% chance based upon the parents' genotypes. Well... the stork delivered! We got just what we were hoping for... an elite-fleeced, black male with tons of curb appeal. He has been aptly named, Dark as Knight-- "Dark" for his color and "Knight" after his sire Divine Kingship. Dark as Knight will be a very versatile herdsire here at Rare Gem Alpacas in the coming years. He has been genotyped and is an Ee a2a3 which we have found ideal for producing harlequins and appaloosas. He can also cover other colors as well. In addition to being the perfect genetic mix, we are smitten with this young man's fleece, phenotype and disposition. We look forward to him stamping his offspring with his traits-- including his teddy bear head. Update: Dark as Knight competed in two shows this Fall and took a Color Championship at both shows. Check out his scorecards and fleece samples under "Photos" to the right. This boy continues to please us!

Java Jack has a 50 percent chance of carrying the Appaloosa gene(s) with the ability to throw it if paired with the correct color genotype gal. Jolene is sired by Apache Genteman (harlequin Appaloosa) with a pedigree packed with Appaloosas and harlequins. Sire: MFI Peruvian Black Mesquite
Dam: LMFI Peruvian Maia

Mr. Big-- Producer of Champions AND GLAMOR MODELS!! His son, Charming, has "hit the runway"! Mr. Big is sired by MFI Peruvian Black Mesquite-- thought to be one of the most successful black herdsire in the industry. At his peak, his breedings sold for $7500. His offspring have dominated at the shows across the country for years. Mr. Big's dam 'Maia' is a two time 'Produce of Dam' blue ribbon winner and is a daughter of MFI Peruvian Jericho, who has produced offspring that have won over 130 championships. He is also the sire of Majestic Peruvian Jeremiah. Mr. Big's fleece is very, very dense with zipper crimp, full of character and beautiful brightness-- even at age 10. When shown under Wade Gease, he described it as being very velvety. Mr. Big is a solidly built boy with big bone, straight legs. Mr. Big is a real 'eat pellets out of your hand' kinda guy. He has a confident, calm, very relaxed disposition which makes him very nice to handle and show. Show History: Mr. Big's first show and it's a first place! At The Best Of the US Show in Columbus Oh. March 10, 2012. Mr. Big placed second at the 2012 AOBA Nationals in Louisville, KY. First show of 2013 for Mr. Big and he placed 3rd in a very large competitive class at the Best of the US Show in the dark brown yearling male class (this is the only show that they did not put him the multi class). Amanda Vandenbosch appreciated his denseness with it's lovely character, along with his substantial frame and big bone. Finally they offered a championship for multis, at the 2013 MAPACA Show, a level 5 show and Mr. Big won the Reserve Championship. Still going strong in 2014 with a first at the Best of the US Show in Columbus, Ohio, and then followed that up with another blue at the 2014 Kentucky Classic in Lexington, Ky. and another blue at the 2014 MAPACA Jubilee! 2014 OABA AlpacaFest and another blue. Mr. Big now has six offspring on the ground. Five are True Blacks out of True Blacks and one is dark brown out of bay black. Daughter, Rare Gem Grace O'Malley, is a 3X banner winner and will be consigned to the 2023 Parade of Champions Auction in New York.

Huacaya | Herdsire (Male) | Proven | Medium Silver Grey | 5/8 Peruvian, 3/8 Chilean

CONGRATULATIONS to Lindsey Betz and the Betz Family Farm on the purchase of Vintage Cashmere's U-Taupe-ia. Taupie will be greatly missed at Rare Gem Alpacas but he leaves behind a number of lovely offspring to grace our herd for years to come! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Taupie is a striking appaloosa harlequin male that is on a roll for throwing spotted and harlequin offspring. So how does this happen? Only part of that story is known, but what we DO know is that certain lines of known appy gene carriers are much more "expressive" than others. Taupie just happens to be one of those. His heritage boasts appaloosa genetics on both sides of his lineage with Aussie Rockford out of Hannahruh on his sire's side and Chiquita Import on his dam's side. In April 2016, Taupie's progeny debuted in the show ring taking a blue in walking fleece and the blue in halter at the California Classic. This first boy was then followed by another appaloosa female and then another appy male-- both very similar to the first. The fourth cria, however, is something extra special! This little girl has expressed every color on the chart, not one pattern-- just speckles and spots from nose to toes-- Rare Gem U-Taupe-ia's Appletini! The unique coloring of this cria looks as though the color from Taupie's Grand Dam, Chiquita Import, is coming through and producing the rarest of rare gems-- her beautiful color seems to morph before your eyes! As much fun as it is to talk about Taupie's progeny... more about him! Taupie has a spotted face, spotted belly, spotted legs, and a beautiful solid platinum-taupe blanket. His top line is a nice medium silver grey, then blending into light silver grey down the sides. UPDATE: 2/2019 Leoopard appaloosa offspring, Sleepy Acres App-solutely Adorable "Dorie", takes Reserve Color Champion at Txolan! Congratulations!!

Sire: SHVN The Buccaneer
Dam: Crown Jewel of PVA

Fall 2022- Congratulations to Mary Miller of Aspen Alpacas on her purchase of FTAF Privateer. At age 10, Privateer is as handsome as ever and going strong. We are ever so grateful for what he has added to our herd over the years. He has blessed Rare Gem Alpacas and our clients with many amazing champions and foundation offspring. We will miss this sweet dispositioned boy, but happy that he is going to such a great home and program. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Privateer's offspring made their first show appearance March 2019. RG Privateer's First Mate took two 1 firsts and Grey Color Champion in both Halter (out of 17) and Walking Fleece (out of 33). RG Harley's Davidson took first of 13 in his Walking Fleece class and then Reserve Color Champion Walking Fleece (25 total). We can now add "Producer of Champions" to Privateer's list of fine qualities. Privateer’s grey, 3X color champion son sold at 2020 Amber Autumn Auction. Congratulations Jamey Haney on her purchase of this beautiful Privateer offspring. Privateer's 2017 skin biopsy at 5yrs old by Dr. Norm Evans shows a density of 71 follicles/sqmm. I greatly anticipated the arrival of this guy and he is all that I expected and more. He is out Crown Jewel of PVA and SHVN The Buccaneer (who passes on lingering fineness to his offspring), both of whom are multiple champion animals! What a powerhouse background this guy possesses, The Elite Maximus, Hemingway, Bobbie Ann on the dams side and Pot of Gold, Royal Inca Legend on his sire's side, no wonder he is such a gorgeous animal. Privateer is stunning. As you can see by his fleece, he possesses awesome structure and the brightness to his fleece is blinding. Take that with his gorgeous head and coverage everywhere and we are looking at a boy that will make an excellent herdsire! Privateer's fleece is that "elite" fleece with bundles everywhere and secondary bundles coming out of each bundle, even down to his knee and under his belly and on his chest. He also has dark skin which should allow him to pass color. He has placed well in the shows and has always been up against very tough competition. The animals that placed above him were always from very big farms. So that should tell you where this boys really stands in the line up of future herdsires. Privateer started his breeding career Fall 2016 and has thrown many champions and has champion grand-offspring as well. He tends to throw the color of the female— while significantly upgrading fleece characteristics. If you have a dam that you love the color of and want to look for improvements in AFD (fineness that lasts!), SD, density, crimp, brightness!

Appy-Go-Lucky, or "Lucky, is a wildly spotted appaloosa whose parents are both appaloosas. Until just a few years ago, appaloosas were so rare that an appaloosa-to-appaloosa breeding was unheard of. Part of this was due to the misunderstanding of the appaloosa gene which had been called a recessive, a partial dominant, an incomplete dominant, or even an "unknown". We have learned much about the appaloosa gene(s)... and this guy has a pedigree packed with those that are most expressive and colorFULL. Lucky is the perfect "next generation" for those looking to produce wildly expressed appaloosas.

Handsome Neversummer's US Steel Son!

Huacaya | Herdsire (Male) | Proven | Medium Silver Grey
Sire: Neversummer's US Steel
Dam: Epic Alpacas Persephone

Looking for a special home for this special boy. Born and raised here at Rare Gem Alpacas... I’m Too Sexy is a handsome male with beautiful bright, super dense yet fine fleece with a well-defined crimp style and long staple length. He is the product of some of the greatest grey genetics in the United States... US Steel crossed with the Bisturi / Avatar line. He has an extremely clean blanket with minimal spots… well built with a short broad muzzle, small perfectly shaped ears, dark eyes, perfect bite and a correct front and rear. What more to ask for?! Oh, and the sweetest disposition ever!! Sexy is the son of Neversummer’s US Steel, the handsome grey 2016, 2017 & 2018 Futurity Herdsire of the Year (Small Breeder division) and multi-banner winner. US Steel is one phenomenal grey male that has been noted for stamping his fantastic phenotype and fiber quality to his offspring-- and I'm Too Sexy is no exception. Sire, US Steel, at age 8 and a busy breeding male maintained his stellar fineness, brightness, uniformity of color and beautiful fleece character. Sexy is proven with quality offspring on the ground and is stamping his offspring with his solid traits. Sexy's dark silver grey dam , Persephone, is the product of crossing the Avatar and Bisturi line. The creation was a beautiful, large boned girl with a spotless dark silver grey blanket. Sexy not only is a stunning stud, but extremely easy to handle. As we do not tend to breed for tux grey, Sexy has been used mainly for producing beautiful cria for our Southern California clients. It is time that this handsome male be put to work for the serious grey and/or black breeder. Please feel free to contact us for more information and/or fleece and yarn samples. Grab some popcorn and watch I'm Too Sexy strut his stuff by "clicking" on his video on this page. You will see the great presence he possessed from the very beginning. Enjoy! :-)

Density 69.75 SQ MM - SOLD.
AOA# 35195405  DOB: 7/1/2014  (12 yrs)
Huacaya | Herdsire (Male) | Proven | Beige, Light Fawn
Dam: Bella Fina's XXXtreme Dottie

"Spots" is a new comer to the appaloosa alpaca scene. Spots' appaloosa gene comes from NGG Lional-- a known appaloosa carrier that has been well-proven in Canada but is rather rare in the United States. In the past... in the United States... the appy program has been focused on achieving the spots which required certain genetic combinations, but unfortunately... not always best known for outstanding fleece qualities. What is so special about Spots from an appaloosa breeder program perspective is that he carries elite-fleeced heavy hitter lines in his pedigree such as Legacy, El Nino, and XXXtreme (out of Hemingway) ALONG WITH the expressed appy gene! These elite-fleeced alpacas are known for their lasting-fineness and density. Not only does Spots sport a sweet, easy-to-handle disposition... his fleece is exactly what you would expect from such a stellar pedigree. He is dense and fine and FULL of crimp! Expect lasting fineness from this guy-- his sire, Sai-Hoji, was 21 micron at 11 years old! Spots dam is a beautiful Snowmass XXXtreme daughter that is currently listed on Openherd for $20,000 by Bella Fina Farm. Spots' first offspring arrived 10/17/18... a beautiful appaloosa male. Looks just like daddy... with even more spots! The dam, Faith, is a vicuna brown non-appaloosa gene carrier... so dad is responsible for the patterning. Way to go Spots! Skin Biopsy Results by Norm Evans: Density 69.75 follicles SQ MM, glandular presence 4 of 4, Avg. SP 12.7 to 1. Micron variation 11.3 with an AFD of 20.68. UPDATE / June 2019: Spot's now has 3 offspring on the ground. Two are classic appaloosa and one is a reverse appaloosa. All are exquisite in their own way and we couldn't be more pleased with this fabulous progeny beginning.

Huacaya | Herdsire (Male) | Unproven | White, Medium Rose Grey
Sire: FTAF's Privateer
Dam: WV's Trixiebelle

First Mate is a handsome male with a well-defined fleece structure that is uniform throughout. He sports a solid blanket that is extremely bright and fine with a high frequency crimp style. At his first show (March 2019), he took Color Champion in both Halter (of 17) and Walking Fleece (of 33)! First Mate is the son of multi-banner winning sire, FTAF's Privateer, who's fiber stats are AFD 20.9, SD 3.9, CV 18.5, %>30=2% at age 6. Privateer's fleece is that "elite" fleece with bundles everywhere and secondary bundles coming out of each bundle, even down to his knee and under his belly and on his chest. This breeding male is aging gracefully and retaining his fineness and uniformity and passing along these characteristics to his offspring such as First Mate! AND the majority of the time, he throws the color of the dam!!! It should also be noted that grandsire, true black SHVN The Buccaneer, took his 13th banner at 7 years old! Sire's skin biopsy results from 2017 (at 5yrs old by Dr. Norm Evans): Density of 71 follicles/sqmm. And dam, Trixiebelle, is no slouch! She has an awesome pedigree including grandsire-- the legendary SA Peruvian Black Epic, 7X banner winner and sire of offspring with over 150 champion wins. First Mate's manner is mild, just like his sire's. Always a pleasure! He stands tall and proud with thick tree trunk legs. He has settled his first females and is ready to make and outstanding contribution to your breeding program.

Handsome Appaloosa Harlequin Stud (SOLD)
AOA# 35240655  DOB: 6/28/2015  (11 yrs)
Huacaya | Herdsire (Male) | Proven | Medium Fawn, Medium Silver Grey, True Black
Sire: Windspun WSA Patriotic Gentlemen
Dam: Excelsior's High Voltage Tazer

Apache was a cornerstone of our herd for over five years. He now has 41 registered offspring many of which are in our Rare Gem herd. Follow the links below to view his amazing, colorFULL progeny. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Oh, my oh my! Apache is a proven herdsire with 28 cria on the ground! Sometimes words just aren't enough. If you are looking for an appaloosa harlequin stud to cover your girls and create something truly unique, look no further. This boy has it all! Apache's pedigree is packed (on both sides) with outstanding appaloosas and harlequins. It is highly probable that Apache is homozygous meaning you do not have to breed him to another harlequin or appaloosa to get a good chance of producing an appaloosa / harlequin offspring. A definite plus for those breeding for spots. With 28 offspring now sired by Apache, we have a pretty good picture of his expressivity. Of the 28 offspring on the ground (December 2021), 27 of the dams were solid colored (not appaloosa or harlequin). All but 2 of the 27 offspring are either classic appaloosa or harlequin. That is an expression rate of 93%! Ironically, the one appaloosa female that Apache was bred to threw a solid. Apache is as sure of a bet as you can get when looking for these uniquely colored / patterned alpacas. Apache's sire, Windspun WSA Patriotic Gentleman, is an appaloosa as well. He's a blue ribbon winning male that sports a beautiful fleece and strong confirmation. Patriotic Gentleman's sire is the multi-champion Hobby Horse Farm Great Expecations making his grandsire the well-known SA Peruvian Black Epic. Apache's dam, Excelsior's High Voltage Tazer, has an equally impressive background. She's the harlequin daughter of two very well-known appaloosas - NWA/Hearsum Paulo and Cookies and Cream. In May 2021, Apache's appaloosa offspring took 2nd Place - Get of Sire at CABA. UPDATE: For the first time ever, this highly expressive stud will be made available Summer of 2022. We work with international buyers and can guide you through the process. If interested, please don't wait... contact us now!

UPDATE: Winter / 2023-- Design is all grown up now and ready for the ladies. He is currently owned by Kim and Jim of Riddim Alpacas. Design will be visiting us shortly to service a select few of ladies here at Rare Gem Alpacas. So excited to see how this handsome leopard appaloosa alpaca produces! So pleased to introduce Rare Gem Design! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BACK STORY: Each year I pick a handful of what I think are extra special guys and coordinate dates for my gals. Last year, I fell in love with leopard appaloosa, Illini’s Adam’s Mark. In addition to his outstanding pattern design, he has a solid frame, beautiful fleece and a pedigree packed with appaloosa and harlequins sure to excite the most serious appaloosa breeder. Uniformity of fleece characteristics can be challenging when breeding multis... So BMF Peruvian Millennium was selected from my foundation for this mating. Milli not only contributes a beautiful phenotype but brings well-defined fleece characteristics AND uniformity to the mix. Milli boasts a fiber micron of 20 AFD at age 7 and is in the top 5% EPDs in 3 categories (2019). Milli is the product of BMF’s breeding goal which was to produce a fine fleeced animal in color. Milli’s dam, Trinity carried a 17.2 AFD for her 7th fleece! Sooooo.... Milli made the long journey from California to Texas for this very special date. She wintered over last year at Sleepy Acres Farm and was cared for by Rob and Jen Bolton. In the Spring she returned with a baby in the bun!! Millie delivered this handsome 17 lb. appaloosa boy on 1/19/20. We couldn’t be more pleased with him. Beautiful appaloosa patterning, tons of fleece and a pedigree packed with appaloosa genetics to compliment our existing program. Thank you Jen Bolton for your support... with gratitude!

Sire: MFI Peruvian Tachometer
Dam: Tennessee Valley Tia

For those looking for unique harlequin appaloosa genetics, Hercules is the guy. His dam is Tennessee Valley Tia, a lovely harlequin, and his sire is the handsome 3X champion MFI Peruvian Tachometer. Tachometer is a spotted pinto with a distinctive different look than an appaloosa or a harlequin. For illustrative purposes, Hercules' full sister, America, is shown in the photo section of this page. America is a spotted pinto expressing this interesting genetic from her father while Hercules expressed as a harlequin appaloosa, similar to his harlequin dam. As Hercules is just beginning his breeding career, it remains to be seen whether he will throw both expressions... or maybe even a combination of the two-- the ultra rare pintaloosa?! Hercules' former owner's wrote: This guy is rock solid. He is bigger than most of the cria that are older than him. Hercules seemed the most appropriate name for him. His conformation is spot on but his fleece...… it does not disappoint! He's very dense, fine and displays excellent crimp. Hercules had an extensive show career in 2019 and 2020-- Best Breed and Opened, Seven 1st ribbons, seven 2nd place ribbons, two 4th's and one 5th. Huacaya | Herdsire (Male) | Proven | White, Beige, Light Fawn, Medium Fawn, Dark Fawn, Light Brown
Sire: Snowmass Velvet Legacy XX

Meet the newest addition to the Rare Gem herd-- Snowmass Sizlin Legacy XX! This boy is an exciting find out of the Snowmass herd. While Snowmass did not breed appaloosas, they kept detailed breeding program notes which included specific lines that threw spots and the frequency of those spotted results. Sizlin descends from an import within the Snowmass herd that threw the highest number of spotted offspring-- to a rate of 6.5X that of the others in their herd. Do we have a new gene carrier to add to the list of the appaloosa breeders?!?! Time will tell. Sizlin will be thoroughly "tested" and bred across the full range of colors of non-appaloosa carriers. In addition to having a beautiful phenotype, Sizlin has a buttery handle that opens up to well-defined spots of white, fawn, dark brown... and even grey! His fleece is extremely fine, dense and uniform. His first shearing at <10 months old yielded 8 lbs. of fleece! Needless to say, we are so blessed that Lynn Edens of Little Creek Farm has agreed to share this amazing young male. Sizlin's show debut was October 20-21, 2021 at the double show NEAOBA Alpaca Fall Spectacular and Empire Alpaca Extravaganza in Syracuse, New York. He color checked and was confirmed by the ring judges as "definitely" appaloosa. Both judges had very positive comments as to his fiber quality, eye-catching conformation and calm, pleasant demeanor. After New York, Sizlin was shown across the United States in a variety of shows. He has performed well including taking 3 Reserve Color Championship banners! Sizlin started his breeding career in the Summer of 2022 and he is a natural. He is being bred to a cross-section of females to determine what he will throw across colors. He has been color genotyped by Neogen / Canada and is a EeAA. Sizlin's first offspring was born June 2023 and is white out of a white dam-- gorgeous fleece and phenotype. January 2025 two more Sizlin cria have arrived-- both showing advanced fleece structure from the get-go. Sizlin's on Fya is a lovely appaloosa female and Haute-n-Knotty is a smoky light brown out of brown. More information can be found on both below. Congratulations to Russ Reynolds of RNR Farms on the purchase of Just Smitten. Smitty will be missed here at Rare Gem Alpacas but we are pleased to have him going to such a great farm where he will have plenty of lady friends. We look forward to seeing the many beautiful spotty babies that we know he can produce. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Just Smitten's dam is harlequin appaloosa Tic Tac, the product of two top producing harlequins from the Kuska herd. She carries legendary appaloosa / harlequin genetics on both sides of her pedigree making it very possible that she is homozygous for the appy / harlequin trait. She has had three offspring-- all out of non-appaloosa / harlequin gene carriers-- one is a classic appaloosa and the other two are harlequin appaloosas-- Just Smitten and Hat Trick. This young male-- Just Smitten was born November 24, 2021 after just 330 days gestation-- 20 lbs and fully baked! He was immediately up, nursing and posing within minutes. His primary color is fawn which will develop into a lovely grey coloration. His legs, belly, muzzle and tail are full of well-defined black spots. "Smitty" is sired by champion stud, FTAF's Privateer-- A handsome, well-proven fawn male that throws the color / pattern of the female 80% plus of the time. He is out Crown Jewel of PVA and SHVN The Buccaneer (known for passing lingering fineness to his offspring), both of whom are multiple champion animals! Powerhouse pedigree including The Elite Maximus, Hemingway, Bobbie Ann on the dams side and Pot of Gold, Royal Inca Legend on his sire's side, no wonder he is such a gorgeous animal. Just Smitten has presence and curb appeal galore! He thinks he is "all that" and I am just smitten with him. The pairing that produced Just Smitten was repeated and his full sibling-- Hat Trick was born on 11/19/22 (337 days). Just Smitten has settled his first two females and they are confirmed pregnant. Dam: ~Stone Pine Olivia (Harlequin)

Another night birth… awoke to this handsome harlequin appaloosa male. He was up, dry and nursing. This was the first birth for dam, Stone Pine Olivia. … and she did a stellar job. Olivia is a harlequin-appaloosa out of Vintage Cashmere U-Taupe-ia. Taupie is a prepotent homozygous harlequin stud that has over 50 offspring on the ground. Over 70 percent are either appaloosa or harlequin grey. He has champion offspring as well as champion grand-offspring. Be Brave's dam, Stone Pine Olivia, was paired with another prepotent homozygous harlequin stud for her maiden breeding-- Apache Gentleman. Apache has over 30 registered offspring of which the majority are either appaloosa or harlequin. Apache's offspring have been rockin' the multi-show ring. He has a number of champion offspring including 3X champion Apache Gentlemen's Alchesay. Apache also has two Get of Sire awards with his appy and harlequin offspring -- a 1st place and 2nd place. (Photos included to the right). Be Brave's is a healthy, spunky youngster. His fleece has been bundles of crimpy curls from day 1. It is very likely that this young man is homozygous for the appaloosa-harlequin allele. His pedigree carries appaloosa and harlequin genetics… galore! Looking for appaloosa genetics that won’t compromise quality? Look no further than Chimbote from MaRS! 4th Generation Appaloosa! Stunning fleece with uniform crimp across all color spots. Exceptional staple length. Notable density, especially at a young age. Excellent fiber coverage. Chimbote has a handsome, compact phenotype-- straight front and rear, with heavy bone, perfect bite and a pleasing head style. We have followed Chimbote's genetics for years as his GDam- MaRS Dixie, is the closest appaloosa descendant to LF Del a Burl, the handsome appaloosa male that was exported to Germany. With his departure, these genetics were limited to just two females in the United States-- one of which is MaRS Dixie. Dixie threw Chimbote's sire, the handsome appaloosa stud, MaRS Whaoo. For the first time, these genetics have been made available through the Wahoo offspring. Wahoo is 7 for 7 producing appaloosa and GG-Sire, Burl, in Germany has produced 50+ cria-- the majority of which are appaloosa and/or patterned. This is a very prepotent line for throwing elite-fleeced appaloosas. Chimbote's dam, Liberator's Faith, is a lovely beige female with Snowmass genetics on the top. Chimbote is a natural with the ladies and his first offspring are hitting the ground an we couldn't be more pleased! All have extremely crimpy, bright fleeces and we are particularly excited about his leopard appaloosa female-- Thankful Eve. Link to her page below. Dam: LV Rockford's Belle Gris

Update: It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that this sweet handsome boy has died. He suffered complications associated with kidney stones. This young man was one of my all time favorites... I am missing him every day. :-( I no longer own his father, so I will be rebreeding Chuckles' dam to his paternal brother, Rare Gem X-Man as soon as he is "of age". * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Meet the second son of Rare Gem XXXtreme Spots. This handsome young boy is a fusion of appaloosa and harlequin producers. On the sire's side is "Spots"-- an appaloosa of NGG Lional descent and dam, Bella Gris, is a platinum harlequin from the Aussie Rockford line. This young boy has fleece character and density already. Not surprising when you look at what the parents and their pedigrees bring to the table. Chuckles is fawn with white spots in his blanket and white marbling on his leges. Keep an eye on Chuckles... he is bound to keep us smiling :-) Chuckles will make his show debut on March 28, 2020 at the California Classic in Merced, California. Please stop by and see Chuckles and get your hands on his fabulous fleece. PS: He gives kisses! :-)

Born on National Donut Day!
AOA# 35484462  DOB: 6/7/2019  (7 yrs)
Huacaya | Jr. Herdsire (Male) | Unproven | White, Medium Fawn
Sire: Rare Gem XXXtreme Spots
Dam: Krispy Kream (3X Proven Appaloosa Producer)

June 7, 2019... National Doughnut Day... go figure... this handsome classic appaloosa boy... Dunkin' was born. At 359 days gestation, Dunkin' weighed in at 19.5 pounds. From the very beginning, it was very clear that Dunkin's fleece was something out of the ordinary. Aside from the spots, which we had bred for, Dunkin's fleece was ultra-fine and ultra-bright. He was cria-shorn on 7/14/19 and his fleece has come in nicely. Dunkin's fleece will be ideal handspun... raw. A spinner's dream! Not one for the mill. A little about Dunkin's dam... Krispy Kream carries the impressive quality bloodlines of her grandsires SA Peruvian Black Epic and PPPeruvian Grand Master. This quality breeding shows through in her proud carriage, beautiful conformation, super straight topline, upright elegant neck carriage and perfectly straight legs with good strong bone. She also has amazing coverage. At 12 years of age, she is still going strong and an invaluable foundational contributor to the Rare Gem program. Krispy Kream has fiber and stats to be proud of. At age eleven and half (2019), she was 22 micron and EPDs in the top 5% in 3 categories (AFD, SD, SF) and top 1% (fibers >30)... 331 of the 47,399 female alpacas tested in 2019. Krispy carries the appaloosa gene from the Black Epic line. She proved this genetic propensity when bred to Charles P. Atlas, a non-appaloosa gene carrier and they produced the wildly spotted appaloosa Dottie Biscotti (2011). So, while Dunkin's sire is an appaloosa, he could very well be homozygous for the appaloosa gene as both his parents carry it. And a little about Dunkin's sire... Rare Gem XXXteme Spots. Spots is a new comer to the appaloosa alpaca scene. Spots sports a fleece you would expect from such a stellar pedigree. He is dense and fine and FULL of crimp! Lasting fineness is in the genes, Dunkin's paternal grandfather-- Sai-Hoji, was 21 micron at 11 years of age.

And his dad is the handsome modern grey, Rare Gem Drogon. We were hoping for some spots or a modern grey, but got a sweet, loving fading fawn instead. He is phenotypically perfect (true eye-candy!) and eats pellets from your hand. On April 21, 2020, Boy Bob was sheared and his fiber is truly lovely! He weighed 65 pounds on April 27, 2020 (~ 5 months old). As of mid-May, we have started him on his "day-weaning"-- away from his mom and he is doing great.

Well.... this time the harlequin appaloosa stars did not align and instead of appaloosa or harlequin grey, we got a handsome, well-grown white male with dark eyes and one black spot on his nose. Gotta say... as an appaloosa-harlequin breeder, was hoping for more spots or a harlequin grey. But, hey! He is handsome and as sweet as they come! On April 21, 2020, Magic was sheared and his fiber is truly lovely! He weighed a whopping 68.6 lbs on April 27, 2020 (~ 4 months old). Beginning in June, we will start Magic on the weaning process. Depending upon how smoothly he makes the transition, he should be ready to go to his new home shortly thereafter.

Privateer's fleece is that "elite" fleece with bundles everywhere and secondary bundles coming out of each bundle, even down to his knee and under his belly and on his chest. This breeding male is aging gracefully and retaining his fineness and uniformity and passing along these characteristics to his offspring such as Will's dad, Davidson! Sire Davidson took his first championship as a juvie taking 1st of 13 in his Walking Fleece class and then Fawn Reserve Color Champion Walking Fleece (25 total). Way to go dad!! This handsome young male is the full sibling to Rare Gem Privateer's First Mate. Brother, First Mate, was sold in the 2020 Amber Autumn Auction. Like brother, Hooked on a Feelin' is a handsome male with fleece that is looking well-defined and uniform throughout. He sports a solid blanket that is extremely bright and fine with a high frequency crimp style. Hooked on a Feelin' is the son of multi-banner winning sire, FTAF's Privateer, who's fiber stats are AFD 20.9, SD 3.9, CV 18.5, %>30=2% at age 6. Privateer's fleece is that "elite" fleece with bundles everywhere and secondary bundles coming out of each bundle, even down to his knee and under his belly and on his chest. This breeding male is aging gracefully and retaining his fineness and uniformity and passing along these characteristics to his offspring such as Hooked on a Feelin'! And dam, Trixiebelle, is no slouch! She has an awesome pedigree including grandsire-- the legendary SA Peruvian Black Epic, 7X banner winner and sire of offspring with over 150 champion wins. Hooked on a Feelin's manner is mild, just like his sire's. Always a pleasure!

Darlin' Clementine joined the Rare Gem herd in 2020. My eye is always on the look-out for girls that check all the boxes-- and Darlin' Clementine is definitely a "box-checker" and a rare find! In just two years, she has produced two beautiful classic appaloosas when bred to harlequin appaloosa, Apache Gentleman. The first appaloosa, Rare Gem Savage Love, was a handsome fellow with generous spotting through out blanket. He was purchased by Faye Farley of Majestic Meadows and Alison Mnich of Roaring Acres Alpacas. The pairing that produced Savage Love was repeated an in November 2022, Clementine blessed us with a lovely appaloosa female. While not as spotted as Savage Love, Raya Sunshine, has medium fawn spots sprinkled throughout her blanket and extremities. She is a healthy, robust female that we look forward to watching her develop. Prior to joining the Rare Gem herd, Clementine birthed two female offspring. The first was lovely female born in 2016-- Summer Shandy. Shandy is a multi blue ribbon winner with a two year histogram of 12.8 AFD and Comfort Factor of 99.2%. In 2021, we were fortunate enough to purchase Summer Shandy and rejoin her with her dam, Clementine. Shandy has been bred to harlequin appaloosa, Apache Gentleman, and is due in January 2023. Also, prior to arriving at Rare Gem Alpacas, Clementine has a lovely white female in July 2019-- Clementine's Cutie. Cutie is sired by Hobby Horse Farm's Judge's Choice Winner and 8X champion-- Dancing on the Ceiling. Cutie grew into a robust 190 lb. female. She was bred to Apache and sold to Nichole Baumgartner of Cactus Hill Alpacas in Arizona. Cutie threw a lovely harlequin male, Leo, from the Apache breeding. At Cutie's her first show, the AOA National Fleece Show, she took two 1st place ribbons. Her 2021 histogram results were AFD 18.4, SD 3.7, CV 20.2%, %>30=0.4, CF 99.6%, MSL 101. Clementine is a devout mother with great maternal instincts. She gets pregnant easily and throws large, healthy cria and has a great milk supply.

In October 2022, offspring, Spice Girl, attended her first show and placed first and Reserve Light Fawn Color Championship. Spice Girl is being offered in the 2023 Education with a Destination Auction - Lot 51. For Pepper's second breeding, she was paired with the wildly spotted harlequin appaloosa herdsire, Apache Gentleman. On 11/10/22 she delivered a handsome harlequin appaloosa male. Even at birth, this male has bundles of bright, dense curls. For more info, on Spirit, please see link below. Pepper's color genotype is ee a1a2. UPDATE: On 5/30/23, Pepper was bred to our new handsome appaloosa herdsires, Chimbote from MaRS AND Rare Gem X-Man. Apache himself boasts Get of Sire wins for his uniquely patterned progeny. 2022 Cria – “Be Brave” On August 11, 2022, Olivia delivered her first cria—a handsome Harlequin Appaloosa male—with ease and grace. She proved to be highly maternal with excellent milk production. Be Brave is a spunky, well-built male with dense, crimpy curls. Given his pedigree, he is likely homozygous for the Appaloosa-Harlequin allele. 2024 Cria – “Sizlin’s On Fya” On New Year’s Day 2024, Olivia delivered a female Appaloosa cria sired by multi-champion Snowmass Sizlin Legacy XX. While Fya’s Appaloosa spotting is minimal, she exhibits elite fleece characteristics and carries Olivia’s strong pattern genetics—making her an excellent future prospect. 2025 Cria – "XOXO" Olivia delivered her third cria on May Day 2025—another unassisted birth. This fawn female has a dark muzzle, palette, and eyeliner, with tight curls from Day 1. She is sired by Rare Gem X-Man, our celebrated Appaloosa herdsire. Huacaya | Open (Female) | Proven | White
Sire: Derwydd Totora's Chupulu

Prima is a proven appaloosa producer. In 2019, she threw a lovely appaloosa female out of harlequin appaloosa, Enchanted Hill LuTau. Holly took her first Color Championship just prior to her first birthday. Holly is for sale under a separate listing. Although Prima is solid white, she has Peruvian Platinum in her lineage-- a known appaloosa gene carrier. It remains to be seen if Prima carries the appaloosa allele responsible for the patterning / coloration, but what we do know for sure, is that when bred to it, she can produce it. For Prima's 2022 offspring, harlequin male, Hercules of IPH was selected and they are due for a February 2022 offspring. If purchased before the end of 2021, the breeding / offspring are included in this pricing. Knowing that most locations do not have climates for a winter birthing, if purchased now, Prima can birth her baby at her sunny Southern California location and travel to a new home with her cria in the Spring of 2022. For buyers wishing this option, Prima can be rebreed before her departure in the Spring for an additional fee. For those looking for a package-- Prima, her dam Lucy, and Holly (Prima's 2019 daughter) can be purchased in a package for a significant discount from their individual pricing. Apple Dumpling is a proven dam, great mother and matriarch of her girls. She has a well-spotted, extremely dense fleece and the cutest butterfly ears. Her sire, "Taupie" is a prepotent homozygous harlequin stud that has over 50 offspring on the ground. Over 70 percent are either appaloosa or harlequin grey. He has champion offspring as well as champion grand-offspring. Apple Dumpling is the first born offspring of Enchanted Hill Apple, owned by Ed and Joan Kinser at the time. They said... of all the alpacas that have been in our herd, Apple is the friendliest, walking right up to strangers and inviting them to do some patting. Apple's dam, Enchanted Hill Appalucy is almost as calm, and is the most sought after of the appaloosas in our herd. All three of these girls, grandma to grand daughter, are just striking. Apple Dumpling will be bred shortly after shearing to a rare gem stud. Stay tuned for more details regarding Apple Dumpling in 2023! Apple Dumpling is brokered by Rare Gem Alpacas.

Huacaya | Open (Female) | Proven | White
Sire: Epic Challenger
Dam: Enchanted Hill Apple Dumpling
Service Sire: Mirakel (Appaloosa)

Dam with a Heart of Gold and a Pedigree to Match Stone Pine Iris is a sweet, solidly built female out of the stunning Appaloosa producer Enchanted Hill Apple Dumpling. While Iris presents as white with just a single small fawn spot — a subtle nod to her colorful lineage — her pedigree is packed with Appaloosa genetics. Her color genotype Ee Aa1 confirms her strong potential to pass along an exciting variety of colors and patterns. Her fleece boasts a long staple length and a high-frequency crimp style, making it both visually striking and a dream to work with. Beyond her physical qualities, Iris stands out as one of the most dedicated dams we’ve ever had here — exceptionally maternal, attentive, and consistent, with abundant milk supply. Iris birthed her first cria unassisted at 341 days, delivering a 16.4-lb dark fawn female sired by our true black stud, Rare Gem Sea Señor (EE a1a2), of non-Appaloosa heritage. This pairing highlights Iris’s versatility as a breeding female and her ability to complement both solid-color and pattern-focused breeding programs. Proven Resilience & Maternal Strength During her most recent pregnancy, Iris experienced an illness mid-gestation and was treated proactively under veterinary guidance. She responded well, made a full recovery, and went on to carry her pregnancy far beyond the typical gestation window — ultimately delivering, unassisted, a strong, healthy 17.6-lb female cria after an extraordinary 377-day gestation. Her ability to recover fully, maintain the pregnancy, and deliver a healthy, well-developed cria speaks volumes about her metabolic strength and maternal capacity. Iris is currently healthy, thriving, and sound — an honest example of real-world durability in a breeding female. Recent Offspring — Rare Gem Morning Bloom. Sired by Rare Gem Mirakel (Appaloosa) Iris’s 2025 cria, Rare Gem Morning Bloom, is a beautiful female with subtle, nearly pink spotting and exceptionally bright fleece. While softly expressed, Morning Bloom carries Appaloosa genetics on both the top and bottom and represents valuable foundation potential for a pattern-focused breeding program. Offering Due to an unusually female-heavy cria season, Iris is being offered as part of a rare three-in-one package, including: -Stone Pine Iris -Her 2025 cria, Rare Gem Morning Bloom - Buyer’s choice to any Rare Gem Alpacas herdsire for Iris' next breeding This offering provides proven maternal genetics alongside exciting future breeding flexibility. Huacaya | Bred (Female) | Proven | Light Silver Grey, Dark Rose Grey
Sire: KTL EL TORO
Dam: MMR Tarah

A fantastic dark rose grey sired by multi-champ KTL El Toro, reknowned for his fleece character, density and staple length. This girl is a charmer and will be a huge asset to our breeding program. A snapshot of her 2014—AFD: 15.93 / SD: 3.34. On 10.14.16, Tempest delivered a beautiful lavender grey girl sired by Vintage Cashmere's U-Taupie. "Taupie" is a beautiful harlequin herdsire that is known for throwing appaloosas and has a pedigree with legendary appy genetics on both sides of his pedigree. While this cria has one spot one large spot on her blanket, her legs are a beautiful dapple grey. When her lavendar tips are parted, her fleece reveals a solid-bright-light silver grey. When I tried to cria tip her, her fiber was so fine that the clippers would not cut it. This is only the second time I have ever experienced this. The baby is strong and healthy and Tempest has been a great mom-- very attentive and an udder full of milk. One additional thing about Tempest... she is a little on the chubby side. She loves to eat!! And eat... She is never aggressive with the other girls over food, she just has a very healthy appetite and likes to keep things tighty by ensuring that no morsels are left behind.

Annelise is a pretty girl-- bright, soft and as truly blue-black as you can get. Her conformation is very straight, straight topline and upright neck carriage. She is sired by the light silver grey multi-champion, My Peruvian Sky King. He stood on Magical Farms Stud Row his entire breeding career. He carries a solid, dense, fine advanced fleece. Bred to a grey, Annelise will have a good chance of having a grey cria. Coming from a pedigree of almost all blacks and greys, and carrying such names as Pistol, Silvio, Dakotia and Bueno, Annelise's breedings are very promising and great fun! On May 22, 2014 Annelise had her first cria! He is sired by the 2011 AOBA National Fleece Show Reserve Champion, MFI Peruvian Allblack. Annelise had Allblack's first male cria, a big, 19 lb. very strong and healthy, beautiful, true black boy. He is as black as black can be, and he is showing nice fineness, just incredibly soft! Congratulations to his 4 Musketeers Alpaca Farm for adding him to their herd. And Annelise does it again! On June 15, 2015, Annelise gave birth to another beautiful true black boy. He is sired by 2013 MAPACA Jubilee (Level 5) Reserve Color Champion, That ll Do Mesquite's Mr. Big. This cria is another big 21 lb. strong, healthy boy. He also is as black as black can be and is showing nice fineness and crimp. Congratulations to Carol and Donnie Garland from Lake Matthews on their purchase of this handsome boy! Annelise has now proven herself as an easy breeder, capable of holding pregnancies even during challenging times. After a single introduction to her service sire, she held her pregnancy through emergency fire evacuations, "temporary" housing and a move to our new home in Southern California. After all this, she delivered a robust, healthy true black girl in 2016!

Huacaya | Bred (Female) | Proven | Medium Fawn
Sire: Goldsmith's Peruvian Ozzy_deleted
Dam: BMF Taos' Trinity
Service Sire: Vintage Cashmere U-Taupe-ia

“Millie” is a stunning female who displays her well-thought out Buck Meadow Farm breeding decision. She brings the genetics from multiple color champion Goldsmith and the genetics from champion producing Legacy son Taos (Zeppelin's Sire). The breeding goal was to produce a fine fleeced animal in color so Trinity was selected to be the dam. Trinity offers an exceptional fleece as she still carries a 17.2 FD for her 7th fleece. This girl has proven to pass on this type of lasting fineness which she most likely inherited from her sire-- Taos. Millie offers very good bone density and a clean proper frame that is well-balanced. Her rich medium fawn fleece is solid throughout and her fineness and handle are impeccable. Her 2014 histogram for her third fleece returned a FD 16.9. This is virtually unchanged from her second fleece stats and also very similar to her dam Trinity! UPDATE: 1/19/20 Millie delivered a handsome 17 lb. appaloosa boy out of Illini’s Adam’s Mark! We couldn’t be more pleased with him. Beautiful appaloosa patterning, tons of fleece and a pedigree packed with appaloosa genetics to compliment our existing program. So pleased to introduce... Rare Gem Adam’s Design! ?? UPDATE: 10/26/17 Millie delivered a beautiful dark fawn female out of Granite Bay Royal Steel. Royal was the 2016 Futurity Grey Reserve Color Champ and Gold Country Best Bred By. Royal Steel is not only dense (65mm/SQMM), he is fine with low medullation (less than 5 percent of light colored fibers), SP ratio of 12.5 to 1, AFD 17.7 and level 3 of 4 gland presence (seen in bright fleeces) {Norm Evans}. Millie has tons of milk and continues to be a great mom!

Sami is the result of a well thought out breeding decision that we are thrilled with. She was sired by High Plains Samson, a Super Sam son. Super Sam is one incredible Canadian herdsire who has raised the bar for elite herdsires. To further enhance this girl, Sami also brings the genetics from Full Accoyo Odyssey from her dams side. Odyssey is a multi color champion in white and his offspring have also been color champions. Sami has incredible staple length with full coverage from head to toe. This is very characteristic of Super Sam genetics. Sami is showing a very stout frame that is balanced with clean lines. Her muscular frame is exceptional for her current age. What Sam's breeder said: Sami was shorn for the first time and all I can say is WOW! She is darker then anticipated and just offers an incredible degree of luster. Her crimpy bundles are showing through out her frame and through her neck. She was re-evaluated and her value has risen as she is maturing. Sami has matured into a high quality girl ready to be bred and well-suited for any color breeding program. With her genetic make up, she has all the attributes to shine.

Huacaya | Bred (Female) | Proven | White | Full Peruvian
Sire: PHA Accoyo Vortex
Dam: BMF Taos' Trinity (SOLD)
Service Sire: Morning Star's Don Diego

Serenity or Serra as she is called is a second generation girl from Legacy son Taos. She is a ¾ Accoyo full Peruvian gal with exceptional genetics. She was sired by an Accoyo Elite son PHA Accoyo Vortex. Serra brings a well proportioned frame with good bone density and a solid top knot. She is structurally sound and balanced. Her fleece is well worth noting due to her exceptional brightness, high frequency crimp and silky handle. Serra has matured and carried the incredible fineness of her dam Trinity. She is becoming one of my low micron rock star dams! For 2014, Serra delivered her first cria, a ultra-white female sired by multi color champion Snowmasters Royal Extreme. 2015, Serra is bred to color champion, Morning Star's Don Diego (a $1,500 breeding fee value). Diego has a track record for producing amazing cria of color out of white dam's. By combining Serra's superb fineness with Diego's density and color (he is a modern dark silver grey), the result should be spectacular! What is said about Diego (2015 service sire): INCREDIBLE DENSITY AND LASTING FINENESS IN THIS BOY His fiber results at just shy of 9 years old are amazing! 2015 Histogram - AFD 20.5; SD 4.4; CV 21.2; %>30 3.3; CF 96.3; still this fineness at 9 years of age for grey is amazing! His biopsy follicle test (via Ian Watt) is even more impressive! Density - 62.8/mm with a Secondary:Primary fiber ratio of 13.1:1. Only 3 grey alpacas have ever tested higher in density and no grey alpacas have a higher S:P ratio (in fact, only 7 alpacas in ANY color have a higher S:P ratio - including white!). You'll have trouble finding a grey to put up a combination of those kinds of numbers anywhere! And Diego’s lineage is impressive, too - PPeruvian Pluro, Danko, grandsire Crescent Moon’s Rayo Del Sol (6x Grand Color Champ) and Sire Emerald Farms Rincon Cloud, 2005 AOBA Silver Nat’l Grand Champion, are enough reason to want him in your breeding program! Diego has many cria on the ground & every one of them is lovely. Morning Star Ranch is very happy with all those they have had and there are 6 that can be seen at Epic Alpacas where Serra is currently agisting. 3 of his last batch of 5 cria are all show-worthy and will be the ring in late 2015! 2014 Cria Histograms -- Avenger – 15.23 AFD -- Baratheon – 15.3 AFD -- Ophelia – 15.6 AFD -- Antoinette – 17.98 AFD -- Lazarus – 18.4 AFD LASTING FINENESS RUNS IN HIS BLOOD: Previous Cria Histograms -- Jacob at age 2 - 16.7 AFD -- Joshua at age 3 - 16.4 AFD -- Levi at age 2 - 20.1 AFD Relatives' Histograms -- Diamond (Mom) at age 12 - 23.00 AFD -- Black Pearle (Maternal Sister) at age 5 - 17.52 AFD -- Angel (Maternal Sister) at age 7 - 21.89 AFD Diego’s string of blues began in ’07 with a rave review from Judge Wade Gease: “This young man had a presence as soon as he entered the ring. This TB 3X banner winner carries a pattern gene from her sire and has thrown multi and harlequin appaloosa 3 out of 4 times. Package also includes 2022 harlequin cria sired by champion harlequin, Hercules of IPH… and another in the oven! Grace is bred to appaloosa stud, Rare Gem X Man! Great diversity of pattern genetics in this package consigned to the Parade of Champions Auction-- June 3, 2023 in North Salem, New York. Telephone and Online bidding information coming soon. Please check back for more info. Bred and born at Rare Gem Alpacas. LOVE this girl! Gorgeous fleece. Nicely conformed. Sweet, quirky personality! Cutest teddy-bear head. Fleece show banner winner at 1 year old! Then two more banners, 3 firsts and a second at the Txolan Sweetheart Spectacular @ 20 months. She has it all. Grace O'Malley comes from an extremely productive line. Grace's granddam, 5Peruvian Indigo Ink, was on the last import from Peru and before she passed at age 16, produced 14 registered cria in the United States!! Corky, Grace's mum, has produced 6 cria so far... all females. Grace is following in her dam and gdam's hoof-prints. At just age six, she has produced 4 wonderful offspring and is pregnant with her fifth! She is an easy breeder and wonderful mother. She has always gotten pregnant with just one breeding and holds her pregnancies and maintains a solid weight even while nursing her cria. She was even pregnant when she was winning banners at Txolan in 2019. Nothing much bothers Grace. Grace's sire is champion pinto out of TB, Black Mesquite. Although solid in color, Grace carries a pinto pattern allele from her pinto sire. Grace has thrown two pintos, one solid and a harlequin appaloosa so far. The second pinto was truly unique-- his blanket was black at birth... yes, a black pinto! He is stunning. And then for his next act, he roaned out and turned a lovely silver grey. Something I have not seen before. Grace is also the maternal sibling to the deceased Lady London. Another truly unique alpaca. Lady London was the result of pairing Grace's True Black dam with a harlequin appaloosa. Lady London, was a blue grey modern. She had no white fibers and extremities leaned towards black. The coat color was so striking that we attempted to replicate it through ET... unfortunately, unsuccessfully. A picture of Lady London has been included in Grace's profile pictures. Cria at Side-- Mr. Bigglesworth is currently a fawn-taupe with black spots. As harlequins do, he will darken over time. In addition to the coloration that we hope for, Mr. Bigglesworth is sporting a very curly, bundled fleece and lovely phenotype with nice bone and straight legs from the get-go. This young male's pedigree is packed with harlequin.

CABA AUCTION LOT 15, May 11, 2019
AOA# 35365815  DOB: 9/22/2017  (8 yrs)
Huacaya | Bred (Female) | Unproven | White, Light Fawn, Medium Fawn, Light Rose Grey
Sire: Vintage Cashmere U-Taupe-ia
Dam: AAV Flash's Faith (4 for 4 Appy-Harley Producer!)
Service Sire: Apache Gentlemen (Harlequin Appaloosa)

In The SPOTlight is sired by Vintage Cashmere U-Taupe-ia. Taupie is a highly expressive harlequin stud that boasts a heritage of appaloosa genetics on both sides of his lineage with Aussie Rockford out of Hannahruh on his sire's side and Chiquita Import on his dam's side. For appy-harlequin breeders, this is an exciting proven genetic that has expressed >80% of the time! SPOTlight is the paternal sister to a great line-up of harlequins, leopard appaloosas... and even a brindle calico, Ms. Fancy Pants. SPOTlight's dam, "Faith", is a vicuna pattern girl known for her dense, but fine fleece with substantial character and nice handle. Faith is part of the Rare Gem Foundation herd. Her first cria was a beautiful uniquely colored harlequin and now this gorgeous harlequin girl. Dam, Faith, is currently bred to Apache Gentleman, a wildly spotted appaloosa for a Fall 2019 cria. Let's see if she can throw 4 out of 4 appaloosa / harlequins?! SPOTlight competed in her first show May 2018. Her fleece was entered in the Appaloosa class, but color check moved her to Light Rose Grey. I consider SPOTlight to be a classic appaloosa phenotypically... but you never know what is going to happen at color check with these unique ones! SPOTlight placed 3 out of 8 in the Light Rose Grey class. True to harlequin type, SPOTight is continuing to darken with age and her color will be different with each shearing these first few years. 2018 Fleece Show Judges' Feedback: National Fleece Show - Fine fleece with excellent brightness. (Wini Labrecque) PAOBA - Good uniformity, brightness and crimp. (Glen Finbow) CABA/Palooza - Very fine secondaries! (Cheryl Gehley) The plan was to keep this girl right here at Rare Gem Alpacas as she possesses everything we look for in our foundation program... but CABA Auction called and asked for the best of our appaloosa-harlequin program... so, SPOTlight will be available to the highest bidder on May 11, 2019. One day only ;-) As an added bonus, SPOTlight has been introduced to Apache Gentleman for her maiden breeding. This boy brings all the phenotypical and fleece characteristics you want to see AND, on top of that, he is WILDLY spotted! Apache himself has a pedigree packed with harlequins and polkadots. Don't miss out on this exciting 2-in-1 package!

This girl has the makings of a stud female! And she has the sweetest of personality to top off all the other important stuff. I originally purchased Marshmallow for a client that had to backed out of the deal at the last minute. When Marshmallow arrived... I was ecstatic! She weighed in at 150 lbs. at 14 months of age and was eager to start breeding! Once she settled in, she was bred once (her maiden breeding), got pregnant, and produced a beautiful male. She has been a perfect first time mom, plenty of milk and attentive. showing signs of being ready for her maiden breeding... not surprising as she weighed in at 150 lbs. at 14 months of age! This girl can go so many different directions from a breeding program perspective. Her maternal sister is utilized by Kuska Alpacas in their appaloosa program. Marshmallow has the added benefit on her sire's side of adding some relatively rare appaloosa genetics... Hmmm... On December 9, 2019 Marshmallow was bred and after one breeding is behavior testing positive for pregnancy. This girl is just oh so easy! As Marshmallow's sire is an appaloosa, her current breeding decision was to go for the appy! She was bred to the wildly spotted harlequin appaloosa, Apache Gentlemen. Apache's first offspring arrived in 2019... and talk about beautiful and color?! He threw 100 percent appaloosas and harlequins out of all non-gene carrying dams. Needless to say, we are very excited about combining these two pedigrees. UPDATE: November 10, 2020. Marshmallow delivered a lovely spotted appaloosa! He is a strong 17 lb boy that was up and nursing in just minutes. Marshmallow is an easy birther and fabulous mum! If looking for a solid foundation female with wonderful density, fineness, character AND BRIGHT white fleece, Marshmallow is one to consider. She has a pedigree full of champions... Apache Offspring! Bred to Sizlin Legacy.
AOA# 35577676  DOB: 5/30/2021  (5 yrs)
Huacaya | Bred (Female) | Unproven | Beige, Medium Fawn
Sire: Apache Gentlemen (Harlequin Appaloosa)
Dam: Buck Brook Morning Glory
Service Sire: Snowmass Sizlin Legacy XX

Stone Pine Mia is the stunning result of crossing harlequin male-- Apache Gentleman with Buck Brook Morning Glory. Mia is a solid appaloosa foundation female currently weighing 160 lbs. She is the daughter of the prepotent homozygous harlequin stud - Apache Gentleman. Mia was a bottle baby and is very curious and comfortable around people. For Mia’s maiden breeding, we paired her with our elite spotted stud, Snowmass Sizlin Legacy XX. . This pairing will not only stack the deck for an appaloosa offspring, but will add fineness and density to Mia's abundant staple length. Mia has been color genotyped and is an Ee Aa2. Mia's maiden breeding to Sizlin was 6/20/23. If this first breeding does not "take" buyer may choose a breeding to another Rare Gem herdsire of their choice. Two awesome breedings for Mia would also be banner winner RG Sea Senor (true black EE a1a2) or our new appaloosa stud, Chimbote from MaRS, a Wahoo son. Mia has a perfect bite, never had a health issue, is current on a vacinations and has a current "clean" fecal report from Oregon State University. Mia is currently in Southern California @ Rare Gem Alpacas, but transport to Redmond, Oregon is available at buyer's request. The next East Coast transport is from Oregon in August, 2023. Brokered by Rare Gem Alpacas.

Best Bred Owned! Proven Appy Producer.
AOA# 36080779  DOB: 9/8/2021  (5 yrs)
Huacaya | Bred (Female) | Proven | Light Fawn
Sire: H2R Motown Blues
Dam: Crescent Moon's Accoyo Calla Lily
Service Sire: Mirakel (Appaloosa)

Myrtle’s 2025 cria has arrived—and she did not disappoint. Myrtle delivered a gorgeous daughter, Rare Gem Dappled Daphne, a rare reverse Appaloosa and the very first reverse appy born here at Rare Gem Alpacas. Daphne will be retained by Rare Gem Alpacas as an important future foundation female and part of our anticipated Fall 2026 show string. We were so thrilled with this pairing that we immediately repeated the breeding, and Myrtle is now confirmed pregnant to our leopard Appaloosa herdsire, Mirakel, for a February 2027 cria. Myrtle is a large-framed female with a beautiful, feminine head style, excellent fleece density, and a calm, attentive disposition. More importantly, she is proving herself exactly where it matters most—in the production field. To date, she has delivered two healthy daughters, both unassisted, and has demonstrated exceptional maternal instincts from the moment each cria hit the ground. Myrtle is one of the very first offspring sired by H2R Motown Blues (“Mo”), an impressive Velvet son known not only for his own show record, but for his elite maternal line through H2R Seraphina—one of the strongest production females produced by the H2R program. In fact, Myrtle is the only Seraphina daughter ever released from their breeding program. Her 100% Peruvian dam anchors the respected H2R “floral line,” which includes notable females such as H2R Primrose, H2R Shasta Daisy, and H2R Iris. Myrtle made an early impression in the show ring as well, earning 1st Place and Best Bred & Owned at the MOPACA Invitational, along with a 1st Place ribbon at the Mid America Alpaca Challenge. For breeders looking to incorporate elite maternal genetics, proven production ability, and the exciting potential of patterned offspring into their program, Myrtle represents a unique opportunity. Foundation Female with Appaloosa Depth
AOA# 36239498  DOB: 7/11/2023  (3 yrs)
Huacaya | Bred (Female) | Proven | White, True Black
Sire: Rare Gem X Man (Appaloosa)
Dam: Snowmass Misty Mirage
Service Sire: Mirakel (Appaloosa)

Illusion is currently confirmed pregnant to our leopard Appaloosa herdsire, Mirakel, and is due January 2027. Sired by the Appaloosa herdsire Rare Gem X-Man—whose own journey included a successful run through the Parade of Champions auction circuit before heading east—Illusion carries meaningful pattern genetics through both sides of her pedigree. While she herself did not phenotypically express Appaloosa patterning, she represents the kind of female whose value lies far deeper than surface markings alone. Her lineage is rooted in proven production, fleece density, structural correctness, and consistency—traits that continue to matter long after first impressions fade. An easy keeper with a kind eye, pleasing head style, and substantial fleece coverage, Illusion is the sort of female who goes about her job quietly and efficiently, without drama or complication. She possesses the calm steadiness and reliability that experienced breeders learn to value more with every passing year. That steadiness was fully on display during her maiden birthing experience. Bred once and settling immediately, Illusion carried her first pregnancy with ease and delivered unassisted on New Year’s Eve during a winter storm. Despite fireworks and challenging weather conditions, she progressed calmly through labor, required no intervention, and transitioned seamlessly into motherhood. Her maternal instincts were immediate and confident—attentive, protective, and intuitive from the very first moments. Illusion has proven herself to be exactly what her pedigree promises: a reliable, low-maintenance, high-value foundation female with excellent maternal instincts and the genetic capability to contribute meaningfully to an Appaloosa-focused breeding program. While her own expression may be subtle, the genetics behind her are anything but. For breeders seeking dependable foundation females backed by proven genetics, reproductive ease, and strong maternal performance, Illusion offers an exceptional opportunity.

Appaloosa Genetics Galore! (ee a1a3)
AOA# 36221677  DOB: 2/18/2022  (4 yrs)
Huacaya | Bred (Female) | Unproven | Medium Fawn
Sire: Rare Gem Harley's Davidson
Dam: DVAF Jewel-ee
Service Sire: ~Rare Gem First Mate’s Sea Señor

Looking to build a foundation herd for an appaloosa-harlequin program? Here is one for your consideration! DVAF Dear Heart is a lovely maiden with appy and harley genetics on the top and bottom of her pedigree. Her dam, DVAF Jewel-ee, is a gorgeous platinum harlequin sired by the most prepotent harlequin appaloosa in the United States to date-- Vintage Cashmere U-Taupe-ia. Taupie is a striking, well-proven harlequin appaloosa male. At the time of this writing, he has 53 offspring on the ground of which 74% are expressed appy or harley. Dear's sire is the elite-fleeced, banner winning stud--Rare Gem Harley's Davidson. Davidson is fawn like his CH sire, FTAF's Privateer, and his dam is a harlequin out of a platinum harlequin, LV Rockford's Bella Gris. Bottom line here, Dear Heart’s appaloosa and harlequin genetics run deep. While Dear’s fleece is not spotted, she carries an Ee a1a2 color genotype and a variegated coloration throughout her fleece— both data points for a great candidate for rare fleece colored offspring. And for those interested... a bit more about Platinums. Platinums are one of the rarest harlequin expressions and coveted by breeders of this type program. Dear's maternal gdam is ALSO a platinum harlequin and grey color champion. Dear's appaloosa genetics on her dam's side of her pedigree boasts Aussie Rockford out of Hannahruh and Chiquita Import. Appaloosa genetics on sire's side are a double up on Hannahruh. Having multiple platinums and on the top and bottom of the pedigree is VERY unique! Dear Heart has a soft-handle with dense and crimpy fleece. She has curb appeal galore with a pleasing head style and an extremely clean apron and lower blanket. She has a perfect bite, a clean current fecal report from Oregon State University and weighs 135 lbs. Dear Heart was shown in 2023 as fawn but was dinged in the ring for "color uniformity". As you will see from the pictures to the right, Dear's fleece carries the variation in coloration that is representative of appaloosa and harlequin genetics. While this variation is sought after in appaloosa-harlequin programs, it does not always fair well not in a fawn competition. Dear Heart's maiden breeding was to TB herdsire, Rare Gem Sea Senor. Sea Senor has been color genotyped as EE a1a2. He carries no dilution and two black alleles—the perfect pairing for expressed and unexpressed ee appaloosa females. By pairing with such a female, offspring have the potential to be appaloosa, harley or TB. This pairing stacks the odds of producing an exceptional offspring!
